Ariadne Getty

Ariadne Getty is an Italian-born philanthropist, businesswoman, humanitarian and activist.

 

Biography:

As President and Executive Director of The Ariadne Getty Foundation (AGF), she focuses on improving the lives of individuals and communities through large-scale unrestricted funding and social activism. Much of Ariadne’s philanthropic efforts go towards global refugee programs through the UN Foundation and to the LGBTQ community that became a focus when both of her children came out as gay. They too have a dedicated interest in philanthropy are on the board of the Ariadne Getty Foundation.

 

Ariadne has been a GLAAD Board member since 2016 and in 2018 at The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, she announced a $15 million lead gift to support the GLAAD Media Institute. Additionally, through the AGF, Ariadne Getty made a $4.5 million donation to the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s new campus. Named after her foundation, the donation was made to assist in the building of The Ariadne Getty Foundation Youth Academy and The Ariadne Getty Foundation Senior Housing. She has also served on the board of the UN Foundation’s Better World Fund.

 

In further recognition of Ariadne Getty’s dedicated support of the LGBTQ community, in 2018, GLAAD renamed their longstanding award to The Ariadne Getty Ally award, and the Los Angeles LGBT Center honored her with their Vanguard award. Most recently, Ariadne was recognized by award-winning magazine ​Variety​ as Philanthropist of the Year as well as being honored with the Best Ally Award by the LGBTQ community’s influential publication, ​Los Angeles Blade​ magazine.

 

What brought you to Davos 2019?

The opportunity to meet with corporate CEOs, executives and heads of state to further the important discussions of equality and acceptance globally.

 

Defining leadership moment at Davos:

As we get ready to attend WEF for the 3rd time, we know we have made an impact and will continue to attend WEF until we have achieved our goal which is 100% acceptance. That will be my defining moment.\
